Stock Market Option Data from Google

Following is the UEL format for getting the option data from google

Understanding Option chain data:

Symbol:

The basic parts of new option symbol are: Option Symbol (root symbol) (this does not always mean the symbol is the same as the ticker) [AAPL] + Expiration Year(yy) [10] + Expiration Month(mm) [07] + Expiration Day(dd) [17] + Call/Put symbol [C] + Strike price [$120 /00120000]

Example: GOOG010717C00120000

Strike Price: This is the price where the contract can be exercised- purchased (in the case of a call option) or sold (in the case of a put option) by the option holder.

Change: This represents the price change for the day to the previous days closing price. “0” will be displayed if the option doesn’t trade for the day.

Bid: The Bid column is for the seller- how much you would get if you sell an option. The Ask column is for the buyer- how much you would pay if you purchased the option.

Volume: Volume will show how many options traded that day. Where no options have traded no figure will show on the table.
